Women Should Not Teach
There is a fundamental belief that every Christian must have….. This is that God does not contradict Himself. If it seems that the Word of God is contradicting itself, then it is quite obvious that we are misunderstanding the context of some scriptures.
In I Timothy 2:12 and I Corinthians 14:34, it does seem as if women are being told not to teach the Word of God in assemblies. Isn’t it possible that Paul is speaking concerning only the unruly women of Corinth and Ephesus, which were having much turmoil at that time?
In I Timothy 1:3–7, it states that other doctrines were being taught, than that of our Lord Jesus Christ, and people (obviously some women in the congregation) were trying to teach the law without understanding and were speaking out and disrupting the assembly. Also, there was a strong element of "goddess worship", Diana, (Acts 19:28) going on and some women were teaching spiritual superiority over men. In II Kings 22:14 and II Chronicles 34:22 the king sent five MEN to find out what the book of the law that had been found meant. To whom did these five MEN seek knowledge and understanding of this book? Huldah! A WOMAN! A prophetess or teacher! Obviously men in the Old Testament had no problem being taught by a woman and she was in a public college when she taught them. Paul knew this and would never have contradicted this fact in his misunderstood teachings about women teaching or speaking theTruth in the body of Christ. Also, wouldn't Paul have rebuked Priscilla for instructing Apollos? Acts 18:26
We believe it is ordained by God for women to teach because of Joel 2:28 and 29. It is written that our Father will pour out His Holy Spirit on his sons and “daughters” and His “handmaids” and they will prophesy (teach, share the inspired word). This is exactly what happened in Acts 2:1–18!
Paul states in Galatians 3:28 that anyone who has been baptized in Christ is neither male nor “female”. We need to see each other the way that Christ sees us, in our spiritual bodies and not by fleshly gender. Then we will see that we all have the same instructions about sowing seeds of knowledge, teaching and being the salt and the light of this world, as we glorify our Father and His son, Jesus Christ. Can we imagine how much more truth could be sown and workers harvested in God's field if we would stop shackling half the population because of ignorance of God's Word on this teaching?
What are some so afraid of? That women will lead men astray with false teachings? We have been told by the Word of God to test all spirits and all fruits to see if they are of the Lord. If we do that then we can be at peace, no matter what gender is sharing the inspired Word of God.
